Deforestation

Subject
Description

At some stages in the life time of trees, they may need to be cut for timber. This needs to be done carefully so that the soils are not damaged and they can then be replanted with a new crop of trees as in this picture from the North York Moors, England. In many parts of the world, however, particularly the tropics, deforestation has led to extensive soil damage as heavy rainfall on fragile exposed soils has caused extensive soil erosion.
