Wind erosion in a field in North Yorkshire, England. On these very sandy soils, strong winds carry the sand from the centre of the field and deposit it at the edge of the field. Sown seeds of crops can also be removed in the same way and dropped at the fence line. This impoverishes the soil over most of the field as it can take with it fertiliser that has been applied as part of the farming practice.
